The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR), centered in Amman, Jordan, is digitizing their vast collection of archaeological and cultural heritage photographs and making these images accessible to the public.
This collection is an invaluable resource for educators, students, and those interested in the history and culture of ancient Jordan and its surrounding countries. Further, this digital record of the past will help preserve knowledge of archaeological and cultural sites for the future—protecting them from every being erased from our collective memory.

The ACOR Library consists of more than 100,000 photographs in a variety of formats, including slides, negatives, prints, and digital. Thanks to a 2016 American Overseas Research Centers grant from the U.S. Department of Education, ACOR has digitized and made available more than 10,000 of these images—with plans to digitize an additional 20,000 images. Visit https://acor.digitalrelab.com to see this impressive collection!

Other than Israel, no country has as many Biblical sites and associations as Jordan: Mount Nebo, from where Moses gazed at the Promised Land; Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John baptized Jesus; Lot’s Cave, where Lot and his daughters sought refuge after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah; and many more. Travel with us on our journey into the past in our free eBook Exploring Jordan.
